About VITALLIS

Now almost two centuries old and situated in the heart of the picturesque village of Fuisse, Chateau Vitallis is one of the few major estates in the region. They cultivate 40 acres of high quality vines across the appellations. The estate was founded by the Dutron family in 1835 and run by Denis Dutron since 1981. In the last few years their son Maxime has taken on a more substantial role in the wine making and business of the estate.

They have 27 acres in Pouilly, 5 acres in Fuisse, 5 acres in Macon Fuisse, 2 1/2 acres in St Veran and 1 acre in Macon Vinzelles

The estate is known for its old vines, some of which are over 65 years old. The average age is 35 years. The vineyards are situated on Southeast facing slopes at an altitude of 750 to 900 feet in the villages of Fuisse and Solutre. Denis tells us "All our vineyards are grassed over for the last 10 years to limit erosion and especially to control our yields. Rigorous work in our vineyards is essential for us to harvest ripe and perfectly healthy grapes, which is essential for the development of a great white wine."

They use traditional methods in the vineyards and and temperature-controlled cellar. The use of stainless steel vats assures a long cool fermentation and preservation of the fruit and aromas.Aging continues in new and old oak barrels but always with a light touch.  His wines are regular medal winners in the many French competitions.
