About KATXINA

Bodega Katxiña, established in 2014, is a family-owned winery located in the charming fishing village of Orio, Spain, just a short drive from San Sebastián. The winery is surrounded by eight hectares of vineyards, featuring south-facing terraced vineyards that descend towards the Oria River, with grapes grown on terraced trellises and arbors. The vineyard is uniquely influenced by the gentle breezes coming off the Cantabrian Sea, contributing to the distinct character of their wines.
Bodega Katxiña is known for producing the white wine Txakoli, specifically using the Hondarrabi Zuri grape variety, which thrives only in this region. This Txakoli is celebrated for its fresh, vibrant, fruity, and fine characteristics, with a pleasant and lasting aftertaste. The winemaking process involves minimal pressure on the grapes and a resting period of three to four months on lees at low temperatures after fermentation, which helps retain the natural carbonation.
Beyond winemaking, the family has a long history in gastronomy, operating the Bodega Katxiña Restaurant, known for its delectable grilled fish and meat dishes that pair exceptionally well with their Txakoli. This combination of winemaking and culinary excellence makes Bodega Katxiña a destination for those seeking to experience the authentic flavors and traditions of the Basque Country.
